Anxiety

"Imagine having one of those stuck in you."
"Not -," his thought cut off. She pushed him.

----

On a bike, doing 30 km/h. Doesn't seem that fast when you're enclosed in a chunk of metal. Now you're a lot lighter. Fighting to stay in a close group, you hit the end of the third, shift. Downhill, shift. Not able to enjoy what this really is. What? What? What was that. That was a question... a question, yes.

Shift. Shift. From the back of the group, sway to the left. Pedal. Pushing down leg after leg after leg. The front. Merge right. Shift down. Relax. Now the full wind hits you in the face. Hair torn back. Bug on shades. Wipe it off. Keep your mouth closed. Bugs always get in there. Tired? No. Tired? No... Tired. Exhausted. Out of energy. Out of luck. The end in sight. Stopping?

Biking past the end of the trail. Friends shouting at you to stop, laughing as if something is actually funny. Nothing funny. Tight turn. Lean too hard. The elbow hits the ground first. It always does. Shoulder, then head. Sliding. No scrapes. Not even a torn shirt. Friends think you're crazy, just lying there. They don't see everything.

A lone lattice work of a power line. The sign of supremacy, wealth and power. The foretelling of struggles, hate and suffering to come.

Born on the cloudless morning of May 11, 1990, I saw the world as a blur, probably because my eyes didn't work properly. Musicians don't need their eyes.
